The Company
Statoil is an integrated oil and gas company represented in 33 countries and engaged in exploration and production
in 15 of these. Employing over 26,000 people and operating 24 oil and gas fields on the Norwegian continental shelf.
Statoil also operate about 2,000 service stations.
The Background
Statoil needed a powerful standard PC to run their existing applications that was
mobile, rugged enough for the harsh working environment and had in-built
communications.
After extensive testing and selection procedures, Statoil have selected high performance rugged PC's from JLT.
These are designed from the ground-up to cope with wind, rain and oil, to work 24/7 and exceed Industrial and Military Specifications.
Approximately 450 PC's were installed on petrol trucks and other delivery vehicles. These have allowed Statoil to implement real-time tracking,
route planning and online access to their accounting systems. Additional benefits were derived by integrating the petrol and oil delivery system
to automatically measure delivered volumes, and by adding driver viewing cameras for reversing and turning.
By integrating PC functionality with GPS in a rugged device, JLT have provided a one-step solution to many problems.
The Benefits
Efficiency and customer service have increased by deliveries being made 'on time' and 'as ordered'. The inclusion of GPS allows for better
route-planning and has reduced fuel costs and idle time. Whilst the ability to run Statoil's standard PC software means that invoices can be raised
instantly upon delivery. Safety has been improved by allowing for route changes and safety and other advisories being delivered instantly to the driver,
and the reversing cameras have reduced accidents and minor damage.
Statoil hope to extend the system even further in the future by adding more standard software to the systems, and are delighted with the Cost, Service and Safety
improvements to date.
